In researching the whereabouts of all of the known CDs in the hobby at the time of the preparing Insulators - A History and Guide to North American Glass Pintype Insulators, it became clear that one reported insulator -- the CD 185.2 embossed B.E.L. Co. with threads --- could not be located.

There were several unthreaded versions of the insulators in collections that we photographed, but the threaded piece eluded us. Not wanting to scrub its existence, the piece was recorded as "out there in insulator land" in the hopes that ,one day it would be verified. Too many people said it was a legitimate insulator. That was 1990, and an unthreaded example was pictured in the two-volume reference book and also listed in the 1991 and 1995 versions of Price Guide for Insulators

With the publication of the 1999 Price Guide for Insulators, the listing was removed since nine years had passed and the piece had never surfaced.

Believe it or not? the threaded CD 185.2 B.E.L Co. has been located. This summer Ken Willick purchased the insulator, so we now can claim it as part of the CD system once again.
